That is so true Lois. The congregation we were in before we left started to have a lot of problems getting money in every month and it was a middle class area. They had a nice reserve and use to get more than was needed but a few years ago that all changed. Every month that reserve would dwindle and I haven't been there for over a year so I am not sure where it stands now but I hope it continues to go down.

The GB Want More Gimme Gimme Feed Me More Money, What Do We Get?
by LoisLane looking for Superman inif we keep dishing out cash, to pay for all of our wonderful new light and spiritual food, have we, in return, actually only been fed garbage?.
example.. when they tell us not to bring up anything in older publications, because it is no long considered "the truth"(tm), was it ever the truth(tm)?.
have we been strung along for 130 years, on imitation food, masquerading, as real food?.

Do you detect an underlying sadness ?
by Phizzy inwhenever i talk to jw's, and even in some of the jw official videos, i detect a definite vibe of sadness coming off these people.. i am very sensitive to "atmospheres" and to peoples emotional state, you wouldn't think so, because more often than not i do not react to what i detect, i just let people get on with it.. but i do get this feeling that they are sad, probably because very, very, very deep down they realise that it is all false, maybe ?.

I definitely saw this before I left. I felt there was so much depression and negative talk. There were very few that were happy and you could even see the fake smiles on so many of them. I remember telling my husband before we woke up and left that people just were not happy and you could feel it in the air. I got to the point where I didn't want to go because it wasn't a happy place in spite of what the WTBTS says about the brothers and sisters being a happy people.

This topice interests me too because we too have a few JW's that work for us and we have faded. They would lose a a great paying job plus we are not hard to work for. At this point we will stay faded but you never known how things will turn out with the strong councel the have been giving lately. There are not plenty of good paying jobs out there so I wonder what your employees would do. Keep us up to date and I wish you only the best. You sure have had your share this year.

I love OUTLAW
by losingit inwhenever he responds to a topic, i just have to laugh out loud!
i love the visuals-- they are very much to the point.
even with serious topics, when outlaw shows up to contribute, i smile, chuckle, giggle, or let it all out!

Feeling Sick
by FreeGirl2006 injust found out my 12 year old niece got baptized on saturday.
that is the same age i got baptized....as we all know it just should not be allowed.
if a child is not mature enough in other areas of life how can they be mature enough to commit their lives to the borg?
-

I am sorry to hear that. When I was in I was pretty vocal about young children and teens getting baptized. I would tell others I don't understand why they are allowed when Jesus wasn't baptized until he was 30. Of course we all know the real reason for it is control.

breakup guilt
by fresh prince of ohio ini recently broke up with my girlfriend of four years.. she is 40 years old, with health problems, financial problems, little family/friend support, and facing an uncertain future.
i gave her some money.. the guilt i am experiencing right now is absolutely anguishing.
she had very, very high hopes about our relationship and loved me very deeply.

You received a lot of great advise. If you do talk to her, encourage her to get professional help. It is very possible that she is stronger than you realize when she is on her own. She made it without you for 36 years so I'll bet she can pick herself up by the boot straps and continue on with her life.
You won't be doing either of you any favors going back to her. She needs someone who is in love with her and wants to truly be with her.
Don't beat yourself up. Some relationships are just not meant to be and when you become so burnt out it means it isn't healthy. You both deserve to have a healthy one with someone you are in love with.

Who is your favorite "Apostate"? Who helped you see the truth about "The Truth"?
by minimus ini would have to say that ray franz was the biggest influence for me.. when i first got on this board, a poster by the name of james, a former bethelite and organization heavy, helped me understand a lot of the inner workings in the upper echelons of the society.. .
and of course, farkel's common sense approach was (usually) helpful..

For me the book Diane Wilson wrote was the first book I read and it opened my eyes to the treatment of women, then I read one of David Reeds books . I still felt I was missing something so I went on Amazon and everyone was talking about Ray Franz so I bought that and read it and my husband willing read it. We then read a number of other books and then we found all of the wonderful websites such as Freeminds, JWfacts, JWnet, and a few others. I am very thankful that there is a wealth of knowledge out there.

If you don't believe in God where do you get the strength to cope?
by Miss.Fit ini know there are some here that are going through some tough times.
some of you do not believe in god.
some are not sure.. i was told recently by a friend to pray to god for help and he would comfort me.. my first impulse is to pray.

Missy, I forgot to tell you something that may be of interest to you. I was on prescription antidepressants for over 20 years And I never took them until I came into the religion. Last year I was doing pretty well before we faded so I went off of them and got on to a natural antidepressant about the time we started to fade. I have felt better than I have in 30 years. Going to the meeting ruined my mental and physical health. Once we faded I felt like a new person and no longer need these very strong drugs to help me. I hope the same things will happen to you.
It really is amazing what the control of this religion does to your mental and physical health. Keep at it and you will soon be ion a better path I life.

Missy,
I am glad to heard you went to the doctors. Most of the time the meds do work but they take about 2 weeks to build up. If you find they aren't working let you dr know and he can adjust them to a higher dosage or to different meds, they only know if they are working by your report. Other medicines you can take blood tests or your blood pressure and you will know they work but this you can't tell through testing.
if you choose a therapist and you are not happy make sure you try another one. Not all of them are good and some you may not click with and that is so important. There are good ones out there that will work hard to help you through this. The best combination to getting through depression is medicine and therapy together. You need to sort out why you got involved and all off the other issues that come with a cult. They can be a real life saver.
Stay with your job until you level out. You may regret it if once you get the drugs working you realize that was a mistake. Don't make any huge life changes for awhile.
Keep us posted. You also might want to try meditation because it clears your mind. You are just about 7 years younger than I am and I understand starting over in your fifties, it is difficult but also exciting. We are always there for you. I thought about one of your original questions about where you draw strength from and I get it from inside me. I research or do some thinking on that line then reason it through. When you come up with the decision it is very comforting. I don't find the need to pray to an invisible god.
keep us up to date and we are always here for you.
